TU's Alumni Artisan's Showcase at Alumni Weekend

Trinity emailed me today. They want to make sure we are all aware of a special event for Trinity alumni, faculty and student artists and artisans. Trinity will be hosting an alumni artisans showcase, and all are invited to both participate as an artisan, or come as a spectator. The showcase is on Saturday, November 7 during the All Alumni Picnic from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm under two 30’ x 40’ tents on the grounds of the Holt Conference Center (located at 106 Oakmont on the corner of Shook and Oakmont). The event highlights your creativity and ingenuity as alumni, faculty and students.

If you are available and would like to exhibit, and even sell, your artwork on November 7, you are encouraged to complete a registration form form. You can get the form and return it to Elizabeth Ford (address below) by Friday, August 21 if you wish to be considered. Based on limited space and in order to provide a varied selection of artwork, a committee will select among the entries received. Selected artists and artisans will be notified by Monday, September 7.

Thank you again for your interest!

What makes Trinity a special place?

Elizabeth Walchuk and Kate Rawley (Warters), SpringFest 2000

What makes Trinity a special place worth returning to as an alum? I don't know that the answer is the same for everyone, but for me the thing that makes Trinity special and worth revisiting are the relationships formed there as a student. Trinity is the fountain of these friendships, the place where they bubbled up and become the flowing, vibrant relationships that linger in our lives today. I just could not resist a fountain reference in relation to Trinity, but it is true. For many of us the campus is the place where dear friendships were formed and nurtured. For that reason alone I believe it is worth remembering and revisiting from time to time.

The photo above is me with my dear friend and multi-year roommate Elizabeth Walchuk. We met just days into our freshman year because we were both living in Witt just a few doors down from each other. She and her roommate came knocking on doors to introduce themselves, and just like that a friendship was born. We lived together Sophomore and Junior years in Susanna before trips abroad separated our dorm life. Now she lives in California and I live in Texas, and while we rarely talk I think of her often and have no doubt that we would get along like old times in the blink of an eye.

I think a roommate friendship is a special friendship, because it is the friendship most like family while living on campus. Your roommate sees you at your best, they see you at your worst, they know your daily habits, your classes, your trials and tribulations and your successes, and through it all they remain a part of your life. There is no such thing as a fair weather roomie. They are stuck with you no matter what, and from that great friendships are built.

Thanks Liz for all of the good times and friendship. I hope to see you at the reunion in October!

p.s. Don't forget that this is an open forum for you to share your own photos, stories, and memories from your time at Trinity. Please send your submission to me, your Class of 2004 Reunion Chair, at trinitysclassof2004@gmail.com. Send pictures, captions, and stories from your time at Trinity to be posted here and shared with your classmates.

Welcome Class of 2004!

To my fellow alums, classmates, and friends, welcome to the Class of 2004 official blog. The purpose of this space is provide an opportunity for us all to reminisce, remember, commemorate, and relive our time at Trinity. Thanks to the power of the Internet we can come together as a community to celebrate our upcoming reunion, all from the comfort of our own computers.

This is also a place to get information about our upcoming 5-year class reunion. Trinity University is hosting alumni weekend on November 6-8, 2009 on campus in San Antonio, Texas and you are all invited to commemorate this meaningful reunion year. More information can be found on the Alumni Office's website.

I hope each of you will visit back here frequently to see what your classmates have shared, and even more than that, I hope each of you will take some time to contribute to this space. All it takes is a quick email to me with the content you wish to share on this blog. Be creative. I encourage you to send photographs and captions identifying the basic who/what/when/where/whys, send your short stories and funny memories. You can send excerpts from papers your wrote at Trinity, emails you shared with friends from way back when, and even updates about your plans to attend the reunion.

I plan not to censor or modify your submissions. With that said, it is probably best to avoid excessive profanity, documentation of illegal activities, or nudity of anyone other than yourself, but heck, the only real stipulation to be included is that you are part of our wonderful class of 2004. Send in as many posts as you like. I hope to update often.

All submissions can be emailed to me at trinitysclassof2004@gmail.com. Keep them coming, and don't forget to make your plans to attended Trinity University's alumni weekend this fall, November 6-8, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas.
